Zero Waste Living: Bathroom Edition

When I first decided to try out a zero waste lifestyle... I was pretty overwhelmed. I am constantly upset about the state of our planet, but I realized that I had to break it down into easy, doable and transitional sections. I started with the kitchen and that was a bit stressful but I have truly stuck to it and have gotten even better about it. (By stressful I mean that I always want to do everything I can to stop producing waste but I often forget that I am only one person). I am no where near perfect and I know it will take me years to become 100% waste free. But I would say I am at least 75% waste free and am learning new techniques everyday.

I have found the uttermost joy in obtaining a zero waste lifestyle. I hope some of these bathroom tricks inspire you all to be conscious of all the waste we produce everyday!

Shampoo Bars

I WILL NEVER USE ANOTHER SHAMPOO AGAIN

I had been struggling with the constant build up in my roots from all of these "Ultra Volume" "Color Protectant" shampoos. The first night I used these bars, I felt a sense of cleanliness I had never felt before. My scalp felt lighter.

I had wanted to try out shampoo and conditioner bars simply because of how absolutely NO plastic is used in the process! And.. they turned out to be my saving grace.

This company HiBar has three in total. One for nourishing and one for volume but I chose the ones that simply rids your hair of all that gunk! It took me a while to get used to rubbing it all in my hair, but now I have vowed to never go back. I even made my bff Kaylin try them and she was able to figure out which one was the conditioner all by herself! Its easy folks :)

Cotton Rounds

This one has taken me the longest time to get used to and if I am being honest, I have run into a few reasons why I would go back. But my everlasting love for the environment directs me otherwise.

Once I have taken off my makeup or applied my toner, I put them in this provided baggie and I use a new one the next day! (Or the same one depending on how much makeup I had to take off lol) THEN, once I am all out of new ones, I just toss the whole bag of them into the washer and dryer with my clothes! Simple as that.

LastSwab

I found out about this one through constant instagram ads lol. I bet my assigned FBI agent inside my IPhone, saw everything I google searched about zero waste and they were fed up, so they recommended me this. Well thank you sir because this is my new fav purchase. I WAS FED UP WITH the top of the cotton swab being already feathered out and pulled apart before I even put it in my ear!!! This specific cotton swab can simply be washed with hand soap and stored back in its cute little container for after your next shower ;)

Oh yeah and uhh..

Plastic Free Toothbrush

You guys... sit here and think of the amount of toothbrushes you have thrown away in your entire life?! Well, NOT A SINGLE THING about that toothbrush breaks down or benefits our ecosystem.

"Plastic toothbrushes take over 400 years to decompose"

And for those unfamiliar with how a landfill works, these bad boys sit there and release numerous nasty chemicals for 4 CENTURIES.

This one is made from BPA-Free Plant Based Plastic!!

I did a TON of research when trying to find my perfect toothbrush. I tried bamboo ones but I felt like the bristles on those weren't reaching my gums. I have only been using the SimpliGood one for a few weeks but so far I love the way my mouth feels after I am done!

Bye bye plaque and bye bye plastic.
